LIVING CASTLES

The project entitled Network of ʺlivingʺ castles as a form of sustainable tourism for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, with the acronym Living Castles, will be implemented as a part of the INTERREG V-A SLOVENIA-CROATIA cooperation Program.

The cross-border area between Slovenia and Croatia includes many castles and mansions, which are connected through the framework of common historical development routes. They are also linked by common challenges and goals, which are directed primarily towards the creation of an innovative and attractive touristic offer, as well as the overall preservation and valorization of castles and mansions through the development of a common cross-border tourism product. The main guiding principle of the Living Castles project is the establishment of a joint brand of castles and mansions that will contribute to better visibility and promotion, with the desire to present them as a common tourism product emulating the castles of southern Czech Republic and Bavaria. Within the framework of project activities, each venue will be equipped with common signboards, a joint promotion will be carried out, whereas joint thematic events will enrich the regular offer of involved castles and mansions, which is often rigidly determined, therefore changes are often difficult and expensive. With the Living Castles project, we will devote a lot of attention to finding solutions on how to use small investments and modern ICT equipment, fill in the mentioned gaps and breathe a new life to ancient buildings thus offering visitors a better experience. Through digitalization, the cultural heritage of cross-border castles and mansions will become enriched, unique and accessible to all visitors.
