LIVING CASTLES

The project Network of ʺlivingʺ castles as a form of sustainable tourism for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritagewith the abbreviation Living Castles, is being implemented as a part of the INTERREG V-A SLOVENIA-CROATIA cooperation program.

The cross-border area between Slovenia and Croatia includes many castles and mansions, which are connected through a framework of common historical developmental paths. They share common challenges and goals, which are primarily directed towards the creation of an innovative and attractive tourist offer, as well as, the overall preservation and valorization of castles and mansions through the development of a cross-border tourism product.

The main guiding principle of the Living Castles project is better visibility and promotion of the joint brand of castles and mansions and to present them as a joint tourism product emulating the castles of the southern Czech Republic and Bavaria. Within the framework of project activities, each venue will be equipped with common signboards and a joint promotion will be carried out, which will enrich the regular offer of involved castles and mansions.

Castles and mansions are often rigidly controlled; therefore, making changes challenging to execute and expensive. With the Living Castles project, we will devote much attention to finding solutions on how to use small investments and modern ICT equipment to fill the mentioned challenges, and breath new life into ancient buildings — thus offering visitors a better experience. Through digitalization, the cultural heritage of cross-border castles and mansions will become enriched, unique, and accessible to all visitors.
